Intimacy Meditation

You will find two different meditations on this recording. They are both designed to help us to develop our intimate connections with others. They are ideal for friends who wish to deepen their relationships and for sexual partners who are looking for more depth in what they are sharing.

Intimacy Through Outer Awareness involves heightening sensory awareness of each other in ways that help us to learn to open up to others through noticing and accepting our own feelings and sensations. Intimacy Through Inner Awareness uses deep relaxation and another form of inner connectedness to open up channels of communication and shared beauty with out partners.

Many Benefits

One of the most sought after experiences in people’s lives, intimacy is nonetheless quite elusive for many people. Its elusiveness seems often to do with difficulties in understanding and responding to what is happening with our partners.
• You feel cut off from your partner or friend.
• In your lives together you sense that your partner doesn’t understand you as well as you would like.
• Both of you keep looking for ways to make contact and don’t seem able to connect.
• The things you say ‘always’ seem to miss the mark.

The fundamental nature of real intimacy is very simple and when understood, this very simplicity makes deep intimacy readily available for most people. You can learn what to do to experience personal intimacy with anyone. This capacity can result in a wonderful sense of knowing everyone very much better, particularly your nearest and dearest.

The primary way of doing this is to notice what is occurring in you while you are with others, rather than trying to reach out to others, or to bridge the gap between you and others.
• You can learn to read others through taking notice of your own responses and understanding that those reactions are your connections with people.

• You can realise that the most direct way of seeing what is going on with others and hearing their messages clearly is to learn to take notice of your own responses.

• Your capacity for intimacy becomes obviously linked to your own capacity to keep noticing and experiencing what is occurring in you as you stay open with and relating to your partner. The more open you are to yourself, the more open you can be with others.

• Your partner may seem to be drifting away from you and you can learn how to stop the drift and reconnect with each other.

The results are often extraordinarily powerful. Deep satisfaction can arise in our relationships. Because the process involves learning how to suspend separation in favour of blending, merging or coalescing, we can truly know others from inside our own experiences. And the union we experience automatically produces love.

Using the Recording

When wanting to develop or re-establish intimacy with a loved partner, the recording has proved itself a very powerful aid. Repeated practice of both meditations is very helpful. So taking the time for this is advised. As already mentioned, the meditations can be used by both sexual and non-sexual partners.
• Non-sexual partners will probably find the Intimacy Through Outer Awareness Meditation best suited for intensifying the depths of their openness with each other. You would simply sit with each other and follow the instructions.

• Sexual partners wanting to intensify intimacy in their sex lives with each other can use either meditation in association with sexual exchanges or as a prelude to these.

• For intensifying a loving and sharing atmosphere with life partners, either meditation is usually very helpful.

The Intimacy Through Outer Awareness Meditation requires about half an hour and you will need to set the necessary time aside to do it. The same is true for the Intimacy Through Inner Awareness Meditation, if you want to do it with full awareness. However, with this one, you have another alternative.

Many people use the Intimacy Through Inner Awareness Meditation repeatedly at night and, by playing it beside their beds as they go to sleep, they do not have to set aside a special time. You and your partner would both lie and listen to it. Interestingly, it seems to work well, even if you both go to sleep. The main recommendation with this method is that you keep doing it for several weeks, or, if necessary, months. It has an accumulating affect. It is also a wonderful option for busy people, since it adds nothing extra to your waking hours.
